Aadhaar has Great Potential to Transform India in Near Future

In March 2017, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley informed the Parliament that Aadhaar may become the only card in future, replacing all other identity cards like voter ID card, PAN card etc.

From birth till death, the 12-digit Aadhaar is going to become the most important number for Indian residents in coming years.

If this happens it will be a great blessing to 1.3 billion Indians, who spends day in and out to get various ID cards in different government offices, starting starting in village office near their home to Panchayat/municipality offices, Income tax offices, food supply offices and certification authorities. More than the corruption where bribe is payed to get any ID cards, though it is citizens right to get the card lawfully, the card never given unless some bribe is payed. It is a norm in India. Officials who is authorised to issue an ID card takes some bribe from the poor. If not anyone tries to get a ID card when they would need, they are made to wait in long queues for days, some time even months. Now Aadhaar card replacing all other card will be a welcome step in this direction. Indian small business communitybusiness and industry professionals have largely welcomed the step saying this will reduce corruption and will make ease of doing business better.

Currently there is a court hearing on the privacy factor in Supreme Court, the largest apex court of the country. A 7 bench eminent judges are debating the role of privacy and liberty of the citizen if they should or not eligible to have the right to give the bio metrics information required for Aadhar card. The Judgement is expected be out soon, once all the debates on this regard is over.

The citizens concern is about a biometric card that is linked to their back account, mobile, phone numbers being leaked to wrong hands, what will happen than...What ever that is if the citizen can withhold the information that he do not want to give or not, this will be a landmark judgement to the rights of the citizen. In a context that the Aadhar replaces all other card and social security is provided as per the card, that people in general will have no issues in giving whatever information that is required for Aadhar.

About 1.16 billion Indians have enrolled under Aadhaar, making it the world's largest biometric ID database.

You need it an Aadhaar number to get a bank account, a PAN card, to file tax returns, to apply for a ration card or open a new company. Aadhaar is also essential for you to get government scholarships, cooking gas subsidies or for availing pension schemes.
