What are the treatment options for Parkinson's disease?

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that mainly affects the motor system. The symptoms of Parkinson generally come on slowly over time.Early in the disease, the most obvious are shaking, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulty with walking. Thinking and behavioral problems may also occur.

There are basically 2 methods to treat Parkinson’s disease. here they are:

Medications

Medications help in managing problems with walking, movement and tremor. The medications increase or substitute for dopamine, a specific signaling chemical in the patient’s brain.

The medications provided by the doctors are:

(a) Carbidopa-Levodopa

(b) Dopamine agonists

(c) MAO-B inhibitors

(d) Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) Inhibitors

(e) Anticholinergics

(f) Amantadine

Deep brain stimulation is a neurosurgical procedure involving the implantation of a medical device called a neurostimulator, which sends electrical impulses, through implanted electrodes, to specific targets in the brain (brain nuclei) for the treatment of movement and neuropsychiatric disorders.
