It comes as no surprise that an online retailer like Amazon has a booming trade in 3D printers. It’s a growing market, after all, and you can be sure that a commercial behemoth offering “Earth’s Biggest Selection” will want a piece of the action.
This Amazon 3D printer best seller list was compiled by aggregating the rankings of the hourly “Best Sellers” in the category “3D Printers” on Amazon.com throughout the last month.
We also quoted some sample customer reviews — based on verified purchases of their 3D printer at Amazon — to give you an idea of the user experience.

The Monoprice MP Select Mini is an impressive 3D printer for a very low price. It has a heated print bed; it’s sturdy and simple to operate, and it produces reliable and consistent prints. If you don’t expect the quality of a $2000 machine, this a great little 3D printer for the tenth of the proce. The machine isn’t perfect, of course. There’s a curious anomaly with variable temperatures while the hotend is in use, and it tends to fail if printing at high speeds. The calibration process is a bit of a pain. And the supplied AC power brick died within 12 hours.

“This little printer does a fantastic job. No clogs (though they will come, as is the inherent nature of 3D printing), five to ten minute setup, operator’s manual very well written. All my prints have been solid.
I’ve also used an Ultimaker 2, and honestly, unless you need a building platform larger than 120mm cubed, don’t worry about getting a “better” printer. This thing rocks.”
The marketing blurb is very excitable for the Monoprice Maker Select 3D: “At less than the price of a new gaming console, give the gift of creativity!” But yeah, it’s a pretty compelling package. Tighten six screws and you’re ready to 3D print in just 10 minutes. The original design for this best-selling 3D printer at Amazon comes from the Wanhao Duplicator i3, which in turn is based on the Prusa i3 design. Features include a heated build plate, and it can print with most type of FDM filaments.

“This printer is my first foray into 3D printing and I am seriously impressed. My kids gave it to me for Christmas and on sale, they got it for right around $300 – excellent considering it is pre-built and has a pretty large build volume.
This printer is a rebranded Wanhao Duplicator i3, which you need to know because there is loads of helpful info and modifications on the net for the Wanhao i3. Search for both when you have questions and issues.”
FlashForge is sitting pretty in the Amazon 3D printer best-seller list this month, with two of their models in the top 10. The first, the Creator Pro was the best-selling 3D printer at Amazon in July. It is a solid choice for anyone who needs a budget-friendly, reliable 3D printer that delivers quality results.
The FlashForge Creator Pro features dual extruders, a sturdy solid steel frame, a heated bed, and a transparent cover that effectively seals the chamber from outside temperature interference. There’s also an integrated LCD screen and control panel, and a warp-resistant aluminum build platform.

“After researching for months, I finally decided this would be my new 3D printer. The instructions and software were wonky but the assembly went smooth and about 90% of my prints have been successful, which I’m happy about. The machine works well if you have it dialed in well. The heated bed is nice. The dual extruders are nice. Setting up new filament is pretty easy. While I had my doubts about this product at first, it’s been workhorse and I recommend it.“
The XYZprinting da Vinci Mini is a new addition to XYZprinting’s extensive range of desktop 3D printers. The Mini is strictly aimed at children and complete beginners. The build volume at 150 x 150 x 150 mm is quite small, but the affordable price of 267$ doesn’t come from nothing. At the same time, the 3D printer can only print with PLA filament, since the aluminum build plate isn’t heated. However, the printer does have an auto calibration feature.
WiFi enables the da Vinci Mini to be operated wirelessly. This means that you can place your 3D printer anywhere in your house and still be able to access it via the WiFi connection. The printer has a LED indicator to show what state the 3D printer is in. XYZprinting’s XYZware is a 3D printing slicer that lets you easily connect to your da Vinci Mini through your home network.

“This is a good starting 3D printer. The software included is okay. The only problem I have with it is that is uses chipped filament reels to make absolutely sure that you have to buy their filament. Also, they include filament with the printer. Truly out of the box printer, ready to go.”
The newly minted TAZ 6 is a high-end machine with a generous build volume… and a wallet-shattering price tag. But it’s also a product of open source engineering, which helps to inspire confidence for when things go wrong. The 10-inch MatterControl Touch controller lets you connect to the printer wirelessly. It includes an onboard camera, an easy to use interface and internet capabilities. If you feel like it, you can experiment with different tool heads. There’s a large community on hand to provide support. All in all, this is a well-tested and professional 3D printer.
3D Printer Review: Lulzbot TAZ 6 Review: Bigger, Better, Stronger
The printer itself is dead-on reliable; it prints well, the documentation is great, and everything about it is liberally licensed. Bundled together with a custom version of Cura, pretty much anyone with a basic knowledge of computers can print with it. No wonder it’s one of the best-selling 3D printers at Amazon.

“I purchased the Taz 6 about 2 weeks ago and have been working with it quite regularly since then. Mostly I’ve been printing a couple of parts I’m prototyping though I’ve downloaded and printed a couple of parts from Thingiverse as well.
I did take an excellent 3 hour class on 3d printing at a makerspace in Columbus Ohio before my purchase. After that I printed 2 parts on the makerspace’s RepRap printer. That was very helpful in getting me started.
I’m very happy with the printer thus far. Mostly I’ve printed with ABS and that has gone quite well. I’ve only had 2 or 3 truly failed parts, primarily because of failed bed adhesion. At the fastest speed (which is useful for prototyping) the quality isn’t great but I can tweak my design as I go. I’m about ready to print a production part at highest quality.”
The Hictop MK8 has an interesting tweak to the original design. It features an alarm to notify you when your filament is running low, so that you’ll never be left hanging in the middle of a print job. If this is a recurring problem for you (and you find it difficult to judge just by glancing at the spool) then Hictop MK8 has the solution. One other aspect that makes it special is the huge build volume of 269 x 210 x 195 mm. Be aware that this printer is a DIY kit.

sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px">So what do you get for the price? Based on this price point, the da Vinci jr. is aimed very much at budget use either in the home or the classroom. It can only print with proprietary PLA filament, for example, with a basic calibration system for the print bed, and a press-and-release extruder. A big plus, however, is that it’s an enclosed unit for improved safety, so even children can handle it.
Don’t Miss: Da Vinci Jr. 3D Printer Review: Good for Beginners?
Sure, the da Vinci Jr. is a ridiculously cheap 3D printer. But it’s not necessarily going to give you the most bang for the buck. If you are on a tight budget, but you should give consideration to whether this machine is going to be the best start for your new hobby. We found the quality of the prints only partially satisfactory – so, as an alternative, you could go for a 3D printer kit.

“Let’s start with a few points. This is a 3D printer and an inexpensive one at that. It is like any other high priced technology in that it has a learning curve, it is temperamental, it can be fickle. When you first get a laptop, it takes awhile to learn the nuances, to learn how to get around. You have to load software and go through the settings to make things work the way you want them to. You can’t expect to buy a machine like this (and newer technology as well) and have it out of the box working exactly like you want it to the first time.”
The Korean company behind this 3D printer has a long and successful history of conventional 2D printers dating back to 1960. Based on looks alone, their 3D printer promises quality, which this printer is.
The device has one extruder and can print in both PLA and ABS filament thanks to its heated bed. In addition, the printer can be connected to a computer via USB flash drive/cable, Ethernet and WiFi. The device features a 5″ touchscreen interface. Also, a camera located inside the printer allows the user to remotely view the print progress from a web browser or smartphone/tablet. One of the downsides of this printer are the proprietary filament cartridges, which at just under $40 are expensive for PLA and ABS. Build volume is 210 x 200 x 195 mm.

The best-selling 3D printer at Amazon number 8 is the LulzBot Mini. It’s a high-performance desktop 3D printer that’s been designed for ease of use. Also important: the LulzBot Mini is certified by the Free Software Foundation as Open Source Hardware, which means that the components and blueprints are freely available for modification and education.
3D Printer Review: Lulzbot Mini Review: 3D Printer In-Depth Test
Sure, it’s only got a six-inch square build volume, but this means the print head can move and accelerate faster, which means it will finish faster, and provide cleaner results. Overall, the Lulzbot Mini is proof positive that an open source philosophy and a great user experience don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

“Printer arrived on time, very well packed and was printing within an hour of opening the box. I have used it for approx 30 printing hours now with no significant problems. Printed both with PLA and HIPS materials, All objects have stuck to the heated base without using additional adhesives, tape, etc. The Mini 3D build quality is very good and the handling of the cabling is excellent. This is a basic well engineered machine and it’s working as advertised.”
Qidi Tech’s new 3D printer model “X-one” is a cost-effective desktop 3D printer with a relatively small cubic build volume. The frame of the X-one is all metal which makes the 3d printer stable. Alunar adopted their own version of RepRap’s open source Prusa i3 project. “i3”, which stands for “iteration 3” is the third version of this printer. This Alunar version comes disassembled, hence the DIY indication, and boasts an easy setup.
The printer is SD card and USB cable compatible. Besides PLA, it can print ABS and other materials thanks to its heated bed, which is made out of aluminum. An LCD screen interface makes changing settings and operating the device in general much easier.

The FLSUN Kossel Kossel Delta 3D Printer is a bit of a different kind of 3D printer when compared to others. Instead of the boxy, 4 corner design, this 3D printer has a delta design which makes it more sturdy among other advantages, for example relatively large vertical build volume. An LCD display and SD card reader allow this 3D printer to be operated without a direct connection to a computer. However, it can still be operated by a computer via USB nonetheless. The auto leveling heat bed makes this 3D printer easier to use when it comes to calibration and 3D printing with ABS filament.

The QIDI TECH I is a dual extruder desktop 3D printer that looks strangely familiar… Yup, it’s a FlashForge Creator Pro clone (which in turn is a clone of the MakerBot Replicator). Yes, it’s getting hard to keep track of all the copycats.
The feature set is familiar, too. Dual extrusion, heated build plate, all metal enclosed frame, acrylic cover, and an LCD control panel. The only point of difference is the price, where the QIDI TECH I comes in at nearly $200 bucks cheaper.

“I really wish that we could do reviews in half stars because this would definitely get a 4.5 stars in my book. For the price, you can’t argue much. It’s 85% fully assembled, after you calibrate it it works straight out of the box, and they did a great job with the build. After having played with it a bit, I’d recommend this to anyone looking to get a 3D printer for themselves. The only reason’s that I can’t feel too comfortable giving them a 5/5 is the instructions are a little lacking when it comes to adding the side panels. Admittedly some of it is straightforward, there is a good deal of guess work.”
The HICTOP Prusa i3 is a DIY desktop 3D printer with an auto-leveling heat bed. The aluminum build plate is heated, so it is possible to print with a wide range of filaments. Apart from that, the frame of the 3D printer is aluminum. An LCD screen allows for a simple interface and the printer can be connected to a computer via SD card.
One of the major features of this 3D printer, apart from the auto leveling function, is the large build volume. The printer can support models up to a size of 269 x 200 x 195 mm. Although this 3D printer comes as a single extrusion model, the onboard control board can support a dual extrusion setup. This gives you the option to upgrade to a dual extrusion system without having to make major internal changes to the 3D printer.

Another printer from the FlashForge stable, the FlashForge Finder is an entry level 3D printer with a playful design. The goal is to offer simple, plug & play operation at an attractive price, but to achieve this the manufacturer opted to strip back functionality to the bare minimum.
3D Printer Review: Flashforge Finder 3D Printer Review: (Almost) For Beginners
The Finder has a build volume of 140 x 140 x 140 mm in a compact body, with a full-color display and wireless connectivity — but no heated print bed so you’re limited to printing with PLA. The package also includes both filament and a USB stick, which is basically all you need to get started right away.

Sample Review of this 3D Printer at Amazon:
“Does exactly what it says. It is a preassembled 3d printer that will have you printing in mere minutes (15 mins). I really like the form factor and the color LCD screen. I had originally passed over this printer and purchased the Creator Pro thinking it would be better with the dual extruder feature and larger build plate but I found that printer to be very unstable producing lackluster results. I also found that in order to print using the dual extruders, the STL file has to be setup to use dual extruders or you’ll just have to pause at a certain percent in the build and change filament colors. In the end I returned the Creator Pro and bought the Finder and I couldn’t be happier. Its so much easier to remove prints with a removable build plate too! This is the closest thing to a consumer ready 3D printer.”
The JGAURORA Prusa i3 is a DIY 3D printer. That means the printer must be assembled before it can be used. However, the manufacturer claims it is easy to set up and is sturdy thanks to its metal frame. An LCD interface allows the printer to be used, without directly connecting it to a computer, through an SD card. The 3D printer has a build volume of 200 x 200 x 180 mm and a heated build plate for ABS filament support.

I am a mechanical engineer and have designed my own cnc machines in the past but when I saw the M2 I knew there was no way I could design anything better given the price of this machine. Like all 3d printers there is a learning curve when you first get the machine but MakerGear was always there to help out.
