NGOs are highly diverse groups of organizations engaged in a wide range of activities, and take different forms in different parts of the world. Some may have charitable status, while others may be registered for tax exemption based on recognition of social purposes. There are many NGOs working all over the world, around and more than a million are there in India only. In these many organizations one such organization is Lakshyam- Hands to Hearts.
Lakshyam started its journey in 2004 with the aim to rebuilt and work for the welfare of society and mankind by large. It is working since last 12 years now and is engaged in child welfare, education, women empowerment and health. It is continuously working to maintain as well as improvise the quality of life of not so privileged section of our society.
Lakshyam has implemented 3 main programs under it, which is rigorously working to uplift the underprivileged section and help them give a better future. These programs are Butterfly program, they have designed this program keeping the two things in mind, first is the development just not physical but mentally also of a child and active participation of the child. They have right now two centers working in Delhi for child education. One is in E-block Vasant Kunj and one in Ghaziabad where kids are from rag picker community for now almost a year. Lakshyam is catering its service to every corner in these areas and trying its best to bring every child under its umbrella by opening new more centers like these. Butterfly program provides not only education, also special attention is given to workshops on cleanliness, hygiene and activities like art and craft, painting and many more. As of now there are around 260 beneficiaries of this program.
The Toy Library program is one of the main program of Lakshyam which collects toys and educational books from privileged section and distribute them to not so privileged ones. Its main focus is to bring back the essence of childhood. Toy boxes are set up in different schools, institution in Delhi and the children donate toys and books which are then delivered to the 13 centers across 12 states.
The third program is Rooh – Awakening women’s soul which focuses on women upliftment and empowerment. This program helps create an environment which is productive for women from under-privileged section. The program makes sure to impart basic knowledge to them which will help them to economically get stable in life.
The program bestows skill building training and teaching of sewing, cutting, stitching and embroidery to women which creates an opportunity for income enhancement. Not only this Lakshyam makes sure these ladies get best of everything therefore many workshops are conducted for enlightening them with health and hygiene education, child care and basic civic sense to help them support themselves and lead a life with confidence among the society. Their products are sold to different areas which help them to generate income.
Lakshyam is doing it best and even more to provide these programs its backbone to run it smoothly. Its purpose of existence is to enhance the lives of disadvantaged children and women, and to offer a positive direction and healthier approach towards life. Ms Rashi Anand, founder of Lakshyam’s with its co-founder Mrs. Poonam Anand have envisioned a country where there is no gender bias and where every child has equal opportunity to grow. And this vision of Lakshyam, they with their team will endeavor to work with forever.
